Cleaning: One of the best acne treatments is cleansing; washing the face twice, once in the morning and once at night. Use a mild unscented soap (or an acne soap) but avoid aggressive scrubbing. Also, it is a known fact that over washing can often trigger acne. Additionally, you could use an over the counter acne removal cream or cleanser.
Benzoyl Peroxide: A product that many have found success with, is Benzoyl peroxide. It is available over the counter, usually in potencies of 2.5% and 5%. It has antibacterial properties which kill some of the bacteria on the skin. It helps reduce acne by decreasing skin oiliness, shedding excess skin and unblocking hair follicles. Most people use face wash before applying it, and follow its use with a moisturizer. However, some people have found it to deepen acne scars.
Tea Tree Oil: Among the various acne removal remedies, tea tree oil is said to be very effective, as it contains an active antimicrobial agent. It is available in its pure form and as gels, lotions, and creams. Many say that it is as effective as benzoyl peroxide, without the side effects. The only drawback is that it might take longer to work. It is best to use a concentration of 5% tea tree oil, and apply it to the affected region a few times in the day.
Professional Advise: If you have severe acne, it is best to seek treatment from a dermatologist. He/she may prescribe oral medication or/and topical treatments to be applied to the skins surface. Topical treatments could include topical retinoids, which unclog follicles and help un-clump cells, or topical antibiotics, which take aggressive action against bacteria and decrease sebum.
Diet: Among the many different approaches of how to treat acne, one that provides great overall benefit is dietary modification. In the war against acne, people are advised to cut out refined sugars and starches, and instead fill their diet with fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Carrots also carry a recommendation for their beta-carotene (Vitamin A) component, which boosts the protective tissue of the skin and helps prevent acne. Deep-fried foods may also contribute to acne. Consult you doctor for multi-vitamins, especially a chromium supplement and drink 8 glasses of water a day.
Acupuncture: If you are keen to seek alternative treatments, acupuncture may help. There are several studies that back up this claim, and it has been reported that acupuncture can help with acne treatments. However, further study is required on the subject.
Herbs: Other acne removal remedies that you can try include the use of aloe vera, green tea and green tea extract. However, they are likely to work in cases of mild acne. Aloe vera is best used in its natural form, and one must use the transparent fluid the inner leaf exudes whenever it is cut, for local application. Among the many benefits of green tea is its said effect on acne. A little cup of unsweetened green tea after each meal is said to work wonders. Some people even wipe their face with the used tea bag.
There are many more acne removal tips that mostly include home treatments, that are convenient and relatively painless, which range from consuming zinc rich foods or zinc supplements, to strawberries or their leaves in a poultice. However, the most important of all tips is never to pick or squeeze pimples, for in all likelihood, you will spread the bacteria and cause the pimple to leave behind the scar.
